Emergency Information
What to do in case of emergency
If your appliance gets broken or loose, call our office immediately. Kindly do not come to our clinic directly; we can create time to see you when you call us. Even in the case of scheduled appointment, call us asap to give us a notice that your appliance is to be repaired.
Loose brackets or bands
If a brace or wire loosens, you should call our office as soon as possible. The brace may require an immediate repair. You may fall into a situation like need of cutting a wire or slipping of bracket off a wire at night or during the weekend. When there is an urgent need of cutting a wire, you can do so on your own with a nail-cutter. Before that the nail-cutter should be washed and sterilized with alcohol. Kindly call us the next business day, so as to allow us to fix an appointment for you.
Wire irritations
Sometimes the irritation caused by a wire on the braces can be solved out by shifting the wire away from the area of disturbance using a cotton pad or eraser. If you cannot do it, cover the tip of the wire with a small cotton piece or some wax. If the wire is troubling too much, you can cut it with scissors or nail-cutter, washed and sterilized in alcohol. If you still cannot fix the problem of wire irritation, call us for an appointment.
Lost separators
Loosing of a separator during the treatment is a common problem in many patients. Do not panic about it; instead call our office to ask whether it should be replaced.
Discomfort with Orthodontic Treatment
In the first week after the braces are placed and common adjustments are finished, it is possible that you will feel some pain, soreness and uneasiness. You can have acetaminophen or some such non-aspirin pain-killers during the time of adjustments with your new braces. To reduce the soreness of jaws a heating pad or a warm wash cloth can be used.
