Info for Patients
Getting a beautiful, healthy smile is a process that requires time, careful attention, a few lifestyle adjustments, and a diligent commitment. And the rewards are worth it!
Following is some need-to-know information for making your treatment as comfortable, effective and quick as possible.
Foods to avoid
Patients undergoing orthodontic treatment with braces can eat or drink a wide variety of foods. However, there are a few foods that can damage orthodontic appliances and braces, bend wires, require extra visits for repairs and even set back treatment time.
See list of foods to avoid for braces wearers: Foods to avoid.
Oral hygiene
Keeping your teeth and gums clean with routine oral hygiene is a good idea anytime, but it is imperative during orthodontic treatment, and there are special considerations to keep in mind.
Teeth, wires and brackets collect food when you eat, and if food is left on teeth overnight, thick plaque forms on the teeth and the area between the teeth and the gums. Plaque causes swollen gums, tooth decay and bad breath.
